“京剧文化之旅·梨园童趣”：一场京剧与皮影的“双向奔赴”

“舞台方丈地，一转万重山。”近日，北京市海外文化交流中心在京举办“京剧文化之旅·梨园童趣”活动，向在京外籍人士子女展示了京剧文化在“小小舞台之中”的“无穷意蕴之美”。

On September 24th, the event “Culture Tour of Beijing Opera: Beijing Opera Fun for Kids” delighted audience in Beijing. Organized by the Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchanges Center (BOCEC), the event served as a window into the captivating world of Beijing Opera for kids of foreign nationals living in the city, and showcased the remarkably intricate aesthetic expressions of Beijing Opera beyond its physical stage.

活动以京剧《白蛇传》演出为主，呈现了一场京剧与皮影的“双向奔赴”和同台竞技，新颖的形式、活泼的内容、沉浸式的体验方式为在京外籍人士子女带来了一堂今秋别开生面的“京剧第一课”。

The event revolved around the Beijing Opera masterpiece “Legend of the White Snake”, and merged the enthralling traditions of Beijing Opera and the art of Shadow Play. This fresh and engaging format, coupled with vibrant content and an immersive experience, offered foreign kids in Beijing an exceptional introduction to the wonders of Beijing Opera this autumn.

皮影戏是中国民间一门古老的传统艺术。据记载，皮影戏始于汉朝，元代时期传至西亚和欧洲。在悠久的发展历程中，皮影戏借鉴了京剧在内的多种戏曲唱腔，形成别具一格的艺术风格。

Shadow Play stands as an age-old folk art in China. According to historical records, Shadow Play originated in the Han Dynasty and later found its way to West Asia and Europe during the Yuan Dynasty. Over its long course of development, Shadow Play has drawn inspiration from a multitude of operatic vocal styles, including that of Beijing Opera, ultimately forming its own unique artistic identity.

在活动现场，北京市西城区非遗传承人张杰，深入浅出地讲解了皮影的欣赏方式及与京剧的深厚联系，引起了现场孩子们的极大兴趣。在皮影戏演出中，北京西派路家“德顺”皮影第五代传人、国家级非物质文化遗产项目北京皮影戏代表性传承人路宝刚等演员为孩子们演出了《白蛇传》中《水漫金山寺》一折。剧中一众天兵天将腾云驾雾而来，白素贞和小青接连迎战，二人身段灵巧，精彩的打戏引人入胜，令人目不暇接。一张张静态的皮影在表演者精湛的操纵技艺下变得活灵活现、栩栩如生。

During the event, Zhang Jie, an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage from Beijing’s Xicheng District, captivated the children in attendance by sharing insights into Shadow Play, teaching them how to appreciate its nuances, and unveiling its profound connections with Beijing Opera. The Shadow Play performance featured luminaries including Lu Baogang, the fifth-generation inheritor of “Deshun” Shadow Play, and a prominent representative of Beijing Shadow Play as a national-level intangible cultural heritage project. They staged an excerpt from “Legend of the White Snake” titled “Flooding at the Jinshan Temple”. In this scene, celestial warriors descended from the heavens, and Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing fought them in thrilling combats. Their agile movements left the audience in sheer awe. Under the manipulation of the artists, the shadow puppets sprang to life, brimming with vitality.

在癸卯兔年中秋佳节来临之际，活动现场特别安排了“兔子皮影制作”的体验环节。在孩子们认真的绘制之下，一件件独一无二的“兔子”皮影作品相继诞生。

The year 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese lunar calendar, while the event falls close to the Mid-Autumn Festival, both of which hold a special connection to the much cherished “rabbit” symbol in traditional Chinese culture. Consequently, the event featured a special experience of making “Rabbit Puppets”. As the children diligently sketched away, unique “rabbit” shadow puppet creations came to life one after another.

此外，孩子们还登上舞台，在老师的悉心指导下，体验了皮影的表演操纵方法。孩子们纷纷举起小木棍，嘴里念念有词，不一会儿的功夫，在握、转、滚、夹之间，头上就累得冒出豆大的汗珠，这让他们切身感受到了老一辈手艺人“台上一分钟，台下十年功”的不易，感受到了在中华优秀传统文化的浸润下非遗传承者们积极乐观的工作态度。

The children even took to the stage and, under the guidance of the instructor, delved into the techniques of manipulating shadow puppets. Holding small wooden rods and reciting lines, they were soon sweating profusely as they maneuvered the puppets through various motions like grasping, turning, rolling, and pinching. This experience allowed them to truly understand the meaning of the ancient saying among seasoned artisans: “One minute on stage requires ten years of preparation”. They also gained insight into the positive and optimistic work ethic of intangible cultural heritage inheritors, inspired by the richness of traditional Chinese culture.

在现场布置的京剧道具与经典皮影展陈营造的沉浸氛围中，北京京剧院的演员带来了原汁原味的京剧演出。表演的京剧《盗仙草》亦选自《白蛇传》，让孩子们体会到了同一故事之下不同艺术门类的呈现形式。

Appreciating Beijing Opera and nurturing cultural awareness: Innovative expressions of culture to spread the voice of China

Within the immersive ambiance fostered by Beijing Opera props and the timeless Shadow Play displays, actors from the Jingju Theater Company of Beijing brought forth an authentic Beijing Opera performance. The chosen piece, “Stealing the Immortal Grass”, was derived from the same narrative as “Legend of the White Snake”, providing children with an opportunity to appreciate how the same story was interpreted in different artistic genres.

《盗仙草》的故事讲解，加之演员们行云流水的武戏与灵动精妙的表情，瞬间吸引了孩子们的眼球。通过近距离观看京剧的一招一式，孩子们对京剧文化有了更直观的感触，虽然有着不同的文化背景，但京剧对他们都有着相同的吸引力。

The storytelling behind “Stealing the Immortal Grass”, along with the actors’ fluid martial arts performances and expressive grace, immediately grabbed the children’s interest. Watching Beijing Opera up close provided the children with a vivid experience of Beijing Opera culture. Beijing Opera had an equally enchanting appeal for the children, despite their diverse cultural backgrounds.

本次活动，北京市海外文化交流中心深挖京剧文化内涵，横向结合不同门类非遗文化，以年轻化的表达方式展示千百年绝技，以国际化的解读展现文化不同剖面，打造一场“见人、见物、见生活”的京剧文化之旅。

In this event, the Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchanges Center delved deep into the cultural significance of Beijing Opera. By bringing together various forms of intangible cultural heritage, the event presented age-old artistic traditions in a fresh and youthful manner. With an international perspective, the event took the audience on a multifaceted culture tour of Beijing Opera, offering them a meaningful cultural encounter with people, objects and life itself.
